What is the correct bottom bracket & headset for this frame?
2 Attachment(s)
I bought a used 2004 Wilier Pro Race Scandium frame on ebay, that I plan to build up and use as a crit bike. I'm not sure what the correct headset and bottom bracket would be. See attached images, hopefully this will be of help.
1. The underside of the bottom bracket is stamped: M S W 0170 BT 05 04 I'm guessing the 'M' refers to the size medium, the 'BT' would be British Thread and the '05 04' would be the manufacture date? Assuming it is British Thread, would a 2012 British Thread Campagnolo Athena bottom bracket work? 2. I don't have much info to help with the headset, the fork is marked Mizuno MM34 1-1/8". I'm assuming the 1-1/8" is the steerer column diameter, but I have no clue what kind of headset I will need. Can anybody help? http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=264470 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=264471 |
The Bottom Bracket should be a 68mm English thread, very few if any bikes now have Italian threaded BB's, and the term British is extremely uncommon. You would need to work out the BB spindle length, or go with the easy route and get a HT2 type / Ultra Torque BB, where this isn't an issue. The stamped marking on the bottom of the shell have no relation to the dimensions.
For the headset, from the pictures, it's a fully integrated one, you still have the bearing's installed, all you should need is to take the numbers off these, they should be printed / engraved onto the races, with this info, choose from your budget buy and fit, a good guide to headsets is here http://www.hopetech.com/webtop/modul...ETS2011Web.pdf and here http://chrisking.com/headsets/hds_inset For both, get yourself a good set of vernier calipers, with these you can check the dimensions for what you need. Any good LBS should also be able to give you this info if you take the frame to them, but would only ask them if you intend to buy from them as well. |

Buy a caliper and measure the ID of the head tube and how wide is the BB shell. if its 70 mm is clearly italian.
As for the headset the only data that came up related with that bike is that is a FSA headset. Assume the usual 1 1/8 cane creek spec, i can see you have a bearing in the picture, take the headset bearing out and read it... |
Forgot this, where in the world did you nail a Gerolsteiner frame?? I dont think those sold to the public but who knows. Nice bike you have in there.
