Need to correct indexing if I am just gonna use friction?

I have a shifter lever that gives me RDerailer SIS vs. friction option.
Indexing works ok, but sometimes doesn't stay/go into 3rd gear and 7th, out of 10, gears.
I flipped it into friction mode and I really like the smoothness, dependability, and silence of friction. It hits every cog just fine.
I think I will stick with that for a while.
So:
Is it necessary to fool with the indexing to get that right, or just fuggettabowtit if I am just gonna use friction mode?

As long as the limit screws are set properly so you can't drop the chain to the outside or into the spokes, how you choose the intermediate cogs is up to you.
