Help! Chain falling off (outside) big chainring when accelerating.
I just replaced the chain on my bike and am experiencing a frustrating problem - if I accelerate quickly (especially from a standing start), the chain keeps falling off to the outside. Is this because the FD has moved during the new chain install or is it something else causing the problem? Could this be a rear crank worn teeth issue causing the problem (I mistakenly ran the old chain for 5000 miles and it stretched a good amount)? Any help would be appreciated!
Some bike details - Caad10, FSA 39/53 front crank, Shimano 5700 11/26 rear. Just replaced the original chain with a Shimano 6701 chain (fitted in right direction). Both old and new chain have same number of links. |
Perhaps the side plates on the new chain are slightly narrower and a minor readjustment of the front derailleur high limit screw is in order. The adjustment needs to be just loose enough to permit crisp shifts to the large ring and no looser. Adjust/test the upshift by pulling on the shift wire like a bowstring as advised in this procedure: http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-...ur-adjustments It would probably be prudent to go through the whole procedure from the beginning since other minor adjustments may be needed due to the new chain.
