Trek 800 Frame help

Hi everyone,

I am trying to build a single speed road bike from a stripped down Trek 800 Sport Frame.

1. Can I use wheels which are larger than 26" with the small frame?
2. Does anyone have any suggestions for a new lightweight crank and handlebar stem that will be compatible with this frame?

Components
Chain 1/2 x 3/32"
Handlebar Stem Hi tensile steel, rise
Headset 1 1/8" sealed mechanism

Crankset Sun Race FC-M35, 28/38/48 teeth

Wheels
Hubs Aluminum, Q/R
Rims Matrix 550
Tires 26 x 1.95" Bontrager Connection
Spoke Brand Stainless steel, 14ga. (2.0mm) straight gauge

I have put 700c and 27 1/4" wheels and tires under 26" mountain bike frames and they fit just fine.

You then have to use caliper brakes or use an adapter that will move the canti/v-brake posts higher for the brakes to work.

From the pictures I've seen via Google, you have vertical rear dropouts.

So what are you doing to ensure adequate chain tension?

This is a pretty good image of the bike when it was built as a mountain bike. https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/bik/3203911942.html
Right now, though, it's just a stripped frame - so I need to build everything on the bike from the ground up.

I am riding the bike in a city, so there is no need for gears or mountain bike tires. I need something fast and lightweight.

As I've already stated, with vertical dropouts, what are you doing to ensure adequate chain tension?

Find a horizontal drop out frame. It will cost less to do that than get the parts you need to use your horizontal drop out mountain bike frame. Roger
