Square bottom bracket with round threaded end?
Hello, my old MTB from mid 90's has a bottom bracket that looks like this:
It looks square, but with a round threated end for a nut to spin on.
I think its similer to these 2 spindles: (found@google)
What kind of a tool do I need to remove these cranks/chainrings? I never removed cranks and am not sure what tool to get.
Thanks for your time.

Crankset or crankarm remover...
One where the inner pushing portion can start way back - while at the same time one where the outer base can be threaded ALL THE WAY IN into the arm.
Others will pop-in and provides links for certain.
=8-)
Usually operated using a 15mm box wrench...

For either spindle you need, a crank puller like one of these (scroll down there are many types and sources). They screw into the internal threads of the crank arm and allow you to push the spindle out via a screw plunger.
When shopping be careful as there are now 2 basic types. Ones for the larger hollow splined spindles, and for the older sq. taper (some do both via an interchangeable pusher pad). You need the small pad version. Of those you need one that can withdraw enough for your nutted style spindle (many do not and can only work with the hollow type).
When buying be sure to say that you need it for a nutted sq. taper spindle.

The basic spindles , a solid slug of steel with a flanged nut to hold the on crank arms,
.. then the next upgrade/evolution,
is the hollow ones with internal threading for a bolt..
Best is to bring the old spindle with, when you seek what is most likely
a cartridge BB Assembly these days .. JIS taper ...
