BB Upgrade

I have an old style bottom bracket on a 1990ish Fuji mountain bike I'm re-habing for my wife. I want to upgrade to some lighter cranks and I'm looking at some on ebay. But these cranks come with a bb cartridge, Shimano BB-UN26. All the add says is that they're 68mm which looks like right width for my bb. I've never had a cartridge type bb, will this thing screw right in or is it more complicated?

It'll screw right in without any problem. Screw the drive side part in as tight as it will go and then do the same to the NDS. 68mm is the right width if the frame is steel.

Shimano BB-UN26.

Only, if you consider, having the removal tools, already
for the loose ball BB.
then buying the right installation tool, for the new one , a complication..

they are different..

An old Fuji? How old and what level? Some earleish MTB/ATBs had a 73mm shell.

The right tools are very important, plus the existing 'fixed cup' (the one on the right) is usually in very very tight. You need the proper tools to remove the old BB plus the tool to install the new one.

That's what I was thinking too. Sometimes 1 measurement is worth 1,000 assumptions.
