Cleat adjusting plate is stuck

I bought a pair of Giro Privateer shoes earlier today. I was trying to put my cleats on, but the adjusting plate (terminology?) is stuck in one of the shoes. Both were initially stuck, so I tried pushing them with a flathead screwdriver and one came free, but the other won't budge. I am not sure what to do. Anyway here is a picture of what is giving me trouble.

If you have only just bought them new, take them back, no point in breaking them yourself, and finding that they won't be warranted due to user damage.

Probably just stuck from excess glue. I don't know how hard you pushed, but I'd push pretty hard. You might put screws in the holes and push downward on those. Also, yYou can often access the plate from inside the shoe by taking out the insole.
