Handle bar Tape-Sub Layer?
Came across a product HandleBra leather bar tape. Quite nice and$$$. But in the install video they showed wrapping hockey tape on the bars first then wrapping the bar tape. The guy said this adds a layer of padding.
So what do think?

You could use hockey tape although I doubt that it has much resilience but rather increases the diameter of the bar. You can also wrap over an existing layer of bar tape if it is smooth and tight. I always wear gloves so the resilience of the bar wrap is of secondary importance but I can't see a double wrap doing any harm.

hockey tape adds a rougher surface for the leather to lay against, which will keep it from slipping . As you put your weight on it, the adhesive actually tends to leech through.

IDK about Leather tape , I've been double layering tape for years.. drop bars , thicker upper portion, trekking bars the whole grip surface..

I'm not sure I'd like to get that on my costly leather tape.

A little hairspray on the padding before wrapping the bar-tape will keep it from slipping. There's also a way to wrap it so that the natural twisting motion of your hands from weight will tighten the wrap and it's less likely to slip.

Therecarecalways the purpose-built under-tape bar pad products from Fizik and others... I don't know why they wouldn't work with leather as well as tape.
I've often wondered how an under-wrap of bar tape would work but I've never tried it.

Old school convention was to prewrap with cotton tape before applying the bar tape.
