10 speed compact crank vs 10 XT mtn bike compact crank

I need more lower gears. Can you swap out a Shimano 10 speed road compact crank(FC-6750, 50 x 34) to a 10 speed XT mountain bike compact crank(FC-M785-8, 38 x 24)? Will the Shimano STI shifters still work?

As long as you have the right bottom bracket, it will work fine. A double is a double.

Actually, the FD may be an issue- the curve of a road derailleur may not give you the best shifting with the smaller diameter rings on the MTB crankset.

And that's assuming you can get the FD low enough to work with the smaller chainrings in the first place....
