SRAM chain/cassette incompatibility?

Specialized Hard Rock disc 29er, rider 6'4 and 250 lbs.

I had to replace a chain, stretched and started skipping at the rear, so I decided to also replace the cassette.

New components, 8 speed, are SRAM 870 chain and SRAM 850 cassette. I have adjusted the rear derailleur in and out but it still skips when I stand. No noise from the rear that I can hear and shifts quickly. I've had the bike for 3 years did not start skipping until chain wore out.

Could this be an incompatible chain cassette combination? SRAM says to use a PC-38. I didn't see that before buying the 870.

Thanks,

Bill

Could be the freehub and not the chain.
