7 spd freewheel to 8 spd freewheel

I have a mongoose bike with 7 spd freewheel, I want to change to 8 spd freewheel, is it possible? My rear shifter is a friction one (one without click) thanks

It's pssible. You may have dropout interference with the small cog, and issues with breaking axels. You sure it's a freewheel, and not a cassette?

Think real hard about it. I've got a Sachs 5000 8-speed freewheel. I just went to service it and found the axle was bent. I've since discovered this is a common problem with 8-speed freewheels because of the distance between the drop-out and the bearing. Worse thing for me is the axle is pressed in the hub in sealed bearings so replacing it will be pretty difficult if not impossible.

The 8-speed freewheel (as opposed to freehub) was an evolutionary dead end with a mercifully short lifespan. If you need more gear ratios, your best bet is either a triple chainring or an 8- or 9-speed freehub.
