Kinked Chain

I was cleaning my chain today and my mother came out to speak to me and when I turned back to my chain again a portion of it was kinked over itself.

It took me ages to free it actually by running it through the rear derailleur.

How can I stop that happening as it has happened three times on me now.

Thanks.

Not worn no but possibly stretched by having to run over a worn gear cog.

I have changed that to one which is only slightly worn until I can afford a new chain and cog.
