downtube crack

Hi

Just wondering what you thought of these snaps. Had a crash today headon.

Noticed this bulge and crack either in paint or more and a bent fork. It rode like normal and then i noticed the fork....then thought I better get off and give it a good going over and noticed the downtube. Its a steel pinarello frame. Do i have to resign this or is it fixable being steel. Can i ride whilst waiting to take it to a frame builder or too dangerous?http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=284088http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=284089

Welcome to the Bike Forums Ceefax.

I'd park it until you find either a replacement frame set or bike. Some people might ride the frame as is, but bent forks can not, imo, be trusted.

Since it's a steel frame its unlikely to fail catastrophically. Frames far worse than this have been ridden for years. I can't tell from your picture whether the fork took any damage. In many cases, particularly with solid, investment cast for crowns, the fork will come through unscathed by transferring all the collision energy to the frame.

Shame it happened to a nice Pinarello, though...

You have to remove the paint to know for certain if what you have in there is a crack in a bulged tube or is a crack in the paint due to a bulged tube. If its only paint probably you might be able to ride the bike like that for a while, just put an eye on that quite often just in case. BTW, is your call ;P
