Chainstay Cable-stop Routing Question
What is the correct way to route the cable through the chainstay cable stop in the picture below? I've seen a couple like this and its not really a stop.

That type cable housing stop is requiring a stepped down ferrule that fits inside.
Cinelli Diving Helmet type . I have some I used for a frame I built in the Mid 70's. if you want to use those housing sections seek some that are Big enough to fit in the larger end. those are what I used .. got a favorite Boston bike shop to go and seek those out? |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you shouldn't need the ferrule if you're using a stop.

... be considered corrected young squire. :50:

He is guessing. I'm Not.

Thanks fietsbob, I've seen those, I'll go call up my local shop.
What I meant by it not being a stop is that the front and rear of the brazeon are the same diameter, so there isn't anything to stop a normal ferrule or housing. The stepped down ferrule would do just that. And in general with SIS cable housing you should always use a ferrule. The cable guide on the BB is for cable w/o house, so not full length housing. |
Yeah, I didn't get a good look the first time around. My bad.

This is a Campy cable stop.
Ideally it takes a specific stepped ferrule with a which provides a very tight fit and ensures perfect ferrule/housing alignment. Less ideally, but still important you can use any stepped ferrule that fits, but it may not resist the tendency of the housing to sit at an angle to the cable line. |
I use some of steel, stepped down ,
then the Typical brass housing ferrule sits within the larger end. As to which C, Mine were made by Cinelli , as was the BB shell.. |
Have those on several bikes. Seems the SS cable housing without the vinyl coating fits perfectly. The old days of bar end shifters used this housing and I do believe that piece was designed to fit that type of housing.
