Shimano 105 hollowtech compatibility w/ Felt z85.
I've got a Felt Z85, and I'm looking at things to upgrade that reduce rotational weight and give me a little more stiffness.
I'm having a custom set of wheels built to handle my clydesdale'ness... and I'm looking at the cranks now.
I have NO clue what will actually fit my bike... or how to figure out what will.
Can someone give me some advice on Bottom Brackets, cranks, and how to put them together?
Thank you guys!

Looks like you have a standard 68mm English threaded BB shell so the Hollowtech II will work fine. You'll need the crankset and the 68mm English Threaded bearing cups (the spindle is integral to the crankset so there are no spindle length options). I am a Clyde and have the 105 Hollowtech II Compact on my road bike and am very happy with it.

You need to ID what crank / BB you bike currently has. The current version (2013) has a BB30 bottom bracket https://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2013...eries/Z85.aspx which unless you use an adaptor, will not accept a Shimano HT2 crank.
If you have a 2011 or 2012, info on the BB is harder to find, but it comes with an FSA Vero compact which is a square taper crank, this weighs in at 688g https://www.fullspeedahead.com/products/37/Vero-Compact, add a bottom bracket (using a UN54, as unknown fitted 313g https://www.jensonusa.com/!YQzfc1PPLS...Bottom-Bracket
The Shimano 5600 compact weight in at 723g, + 90g for the BB https://www.bikerumor.com/2010/11/10/...ed-and-photod/
This gives a saving of approx 188g dependant on the BB if you went to a 5700 HT2 setup, up to you if that weight saving is worth replacing working parts before they wear out.

I have the 2012 model z85 and a friend is upgrading his bike and offered the parts for free.
they are nearly new so I think I only need To buy a. BB which looks quite cheap for a std 5700 English model .

The other question I have is if you switch from a compact chainset 50/34 to a standard chainset 53/39 how do you calculate and check the compatability , I noted that the rear mech etc shows a limit on the sprocket size and max capacity which I am guessing is more related to chainring and sprocket sizes.
The felt Z85 says it has a 12-30T shimano cassette with teh compact 50/34 and I am trying to calculate if a 105 53/39 will work without changing the cassette ?

The crank doesn't care what cassette it has, in terms of ratio, what does matter is the RD, if the bike currently has a 12-30T, it should have a GS sized RD; what you will probably need is a new chain, as the chain you have currently with a compact crank will be too short for a standard crank's chainrings.
