Shimano 105 STI shifters on SRAM XO derailleurs, will they work?

While converting a bike with a 3X9 SRAM XO group to a drop bar, I'm coming up against the lack of availability of road style SRAM 3X9 brake/shifters.

Shimano makes several 3X9 but I want to avoid the extra cost of having to buy a new crankset, cassette, chain and new front and rear derailleurs.

Has anybody mixed the two and do they work together?

Thank you.

I may have answered my own question. SRAM is a 1:1 ratio and Shimano is 1:1.something.

The cable travel per click, the derailer movement for a given amount of cable travel, and the sprocket-to-sprocket spacing are all different.

So much for saving money.

You may be in better shape than you think. I don't know for sure either way, but many Sram left shifters (though not necessarilly the road stuff) are micro friction and not indexed (like Campys) so it's entirely possible that you can use them on either doubles or triples. Check the exact details of the various model shifter sets, and see if that's an option for you.

Otherwise, you're SOL, and need to stay with Shimano throughout.
