6500 Ultegra Shifters

I have inherited a set of 6500 Ultegra shifters that while functionally perfect, aesthetically are in terrible shape. I need new caps and the hoods could stand replacing as well. Does anyone have a line on any of these parts?

The caps are easy to find (search for 'name plates' and 6501 should work too). The hoods might be harder to find, but there are enough sets of broken 6500 shifters out there that a co-op might have some.

Ebay is not a problem, and thanks for the link...was not finding them, but was using the wrong terms.

Now to find some hoods...

I don't know what variances you have with hoods....will 6400 work? 6600? If 6400 works I found some, if 6600 will work they are all over eBay.

If the 6600 will work these are a nice price
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Shimano-...item416ea8f956

6400 a bit more pricey but he is accepting offers

I was hoping that someone more knowledgeable would chip in, as I do not know if the 6400 or 6600 hoods will work with 6500. I literally have a box full of parts that I am going to put on a frame I have laying around as a dirty weather bike. The parts are in working condition, but need a bit of restoration TLC before they go out on the road.

I don't think 660 hoods will work with 6500 shifters (I've got both in the garage and they look different). I think 6501 or 6510 would work, though I'm not 100% certain.

The 6510 hoods seem to be available here:

https://www.modernbike.com/itemgroup....FQuCQgodjEsA9g

I can't promise anything.

You need the hoods made for the 5500, 6500 and 6501 models, anything else won't fit. Heres a french site where you can get them: https://www.xxcycle.com/paire-repose-...1-5500,,en.php

They also carry the name plates: https://www.xxcycle.com/capot-frontal...0-6501,,en.php

If you buy everything from there the total would be $34.12 with shipping.

Is there a difference between 6510 and 6501?

The nameplates are very different between 6510 and 6501. The hoods look to me like they're the same. I think I saw somewhere that 5500 and 6510 hoods were compatible, which is why I thought they'd work with 6500 also.

You can see Shimano's exploded view of 5500 shifters here:

https://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830728639.pdf

That's pretty much what 6500/6501 looked like too, though Shimano doesn't have those docs online.

The exploded view for 6510 is here:

https://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830728746.pdf

Notice the name plate difference.

ANY bike shop should be able to source those for you from QBP. Shimano still supports hoods and caps for 6500 shifters.

After comparing photo's I'd say they would fit but there is a difference. The 5500/6500 hoods have 2 flight deck buttons on the side while the 5510/6510 hoods only have 1.

Well, when the stuff gets here, I will see what fits and what doesn't. Might have to return some stuff and just go through a bike shop instead.

Well 6501 name plates do not fit on 6510 shifters. I can't seem to find a 6510 name plate/fixing screw...not even on ebay

The site I posted in my first reply has them. I would have mentioned that before but you said you had 6500 not 6510.

https://www.xxcycle.com/capot-frontal...gauche,,en.php

Use coupon code NOEL12 for an extra 5% off.
