Not recommended. If luck is not on the OP's side at the time, he could blow a bubble of air through the skin on his thumb and end up with an embolism/stroke/death. It is not that rare... Any gas or liquid at high pressure is to be careful around...

Better answer is to just work that little straw that comes with a spray can of WD-40 up under the inside edge of the grip and squirt a bit in. Then twist that end of the grip back and forth to spread the joy. Push the straw in a bit further, squirt again, and twist it again. Rather shortly, the grip will slide right off. Then just wash it down with hot soapy water and sit it aside while you do the other work. When time to put it back together, put a little water and handsoap on your index finger and lube up the inside of the grip and slide it back onto the bar. Position it as desired and then let it set for a while to dry. It will stick really well.

Peel up one edge of the grip; squirt a little dish soap (or 409, Windex, or Simple Green) into the gap between the grip & the bar, and massage it in. Repeat and repeat, as many times as necessary until the grip is loose, and then just slide it right off; works every time and doesn't damage either the grip or the bar.
