Chain Recommendation
I am installing a Shimano 105 drivetrain on a new bike and would like to install a brighter appearing chain. Brighter in appearance than the dull grey stock 105 chain. Any recommendations?
Thank you. |
I've had good luck with KMC chains and SRAM chains on Shimano components.
But I have mostly 6-8 cog rears here, so I couldn't advise you on anything narrower. |
I use KMC and Shimano chains interchangeably on a Shimano Ultegra 10-Speed drivetrain. In my experience, the Shimano chains result in a more quiet drivetrain than when I use KMC chains.

SRAM makes some nickel plated 10 spd chains that work well with Shimano. I have always been a SRAM guy though so I am biased, I just seem to have better luck with them.

Most chain companies make Nickel plated chains, SRAM and KMC's quick links make taking them off
to clean them, easy. |
Another vote for KMC for brightness, as well as a quiet ride; I've found they're less expensive but I don't get as much life out of them as a SRAM or Shimano.

Shimano IG 70's are nickle plated, shift, and wear well, however use a SRAM or KMC quick link to avoid the Shimano pin connector fun. When needed it's also easier to break the chain using the quick links.

Best chain I have used bar none is the KMC x10sl. I got about 4k miles out of it. You can get it in various colors as well. A nickle colored variant should run you $40 bucks or so. Amazon is a great place to look.

And get a Park Chain Cleaner and the Fluid for it ,no reason to be going for a bright plated chain
If you are not going to keep it clean .. |
^^^^^^^I second a good cleaning set of tools and degreaser. Besides, every good cyclist should have these items.
