front derailleur for a 3x8 hybrid ?

so I've upgraded the cassette and crankset on my 3x8 hybrid, next is the funky Tourney FD-C051 front derailleur. because the bike has shimano SiS trigger shifters, I want to stay with them. I believe its a 31.8mm OD seat tube (but I'll verify that), and the derailleur is the top swing/bottom pull variety. crankset is a 48-38-28 although I may end up putting a 26T small on it.

so... my questions...

1) can I use a FD meant for a 3x9 setup with 3x8 SiS shifters? I noticed my new crankset had the rings ever so slightly closer together, but the existing setup is shifting more or less OK.

2) whats a good FD to look at? I'm kinda leaning towards Alivio (M431?) or bottom end Deore (M590-9?)

(new crank, existing FD)

I'm not sure of the compatibility, but I have a road triple with that clamp size here: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...Triple-31-8-mm
