Not surprising, really, if you look at what collectors regularly pay for them. I sold one of the lesser sets that wasn't quite complete, had a slightly damaged case, and was moderately used for around $1500.

I won't sell mine for many years to come. Untill i replace all the cutting tools with stuff that does the old standards and the new ones, TO THE SAME GRADE as the old campy does. Andy.

If that's the full set, that price isn't too bad. IIRC, they sold for over $3000 at retail when they were current years ago.

I think I paid $1800-ish for the full kit back in 1980 or so. My memory is a little fuzzy. Non traditional way of spending my paper route money. Then I sold the cutters and kept the smaller hand tools. Kinda wished I kept it all.

So my campy tool kit story is kind of interesting-
I started to work for this small one man shop back in 1978. He was building frames and I had to learn how. After a few months of working we decided that we needed professional finishing tools (a Campy kit). hand grinding diameters, Eldi taps and using a T square for facing was slow and lacking. But the boss was tight with $. So i loaned him the $900 that the kit cost then, with the clause that I had first dibs on it when he moved on. Well i knew his nature and a year later he was ready to sell off the shop and move on. So i bought the kit for $800, knowing that half the wear was from my hands. The only thing that erked me was he kept the wood box. A year later I had a high school coworker build a box for it as his final project. I still have the kit and the makeshift box. Andy. |
