Bladed spokes
I noticed DT makes some bladed spokes......How do these compare with 2.0/1.5/2.0 spokes for elasticity.
Would they be a good choice for a 36 spoke spoke wheel. I know they are heavier. Also since they are direction I guess all adjustments have to be made in 1/2 turn increments...is that a problem when tensioning. I'm a newbie at this. |
The round spokes have more "spring" The aero spokes are also about four times as much as the conventional spokes.
You would still true them like a regular spoke. You really need to hold the spokes to keep them from turning, aero spokes will really twist up. I use a hardwood dowel slotted to hold the spoke works good and it is cheap. There are also some third hand tools modified to grip spokes on the market as well. |
I dont believe they offer many advantages, gerd schraner discusses them in his book

Heavier, less elastic, harder to build and true, and (arguably) no aero advantage.
Don't bother. |
Oh, and more expensive.
