Mounting DiaCompe's road brake levers for v-brakes

How do you access the clamp bolt behind the lever? It seems the cable stop blocks the angle at which you need to get your allen wrench in there.

Thanks.

A hole in the front of the lever to stick the wrench thru?

Mine had a little plastic plate at the top of the lever. The plate is held on by a small allen bolt (3mm?). Remove the plate. The bolt is then easy to access. After you bolt the lever onto the bar, replace the plate.

what kind of allan wrenches are you using? I tried removing the plate, yeah it lets the cable stop swing back but...I still can't see how you can an allan wrench down there. Maybe I am ********....I have been up since 2:30am PST today....

You need somewhat of a long 5mm (?) allen wrench to reach that clamp bolt.

Yes. I'm pretty sure it was a 5 mm wrench. I used an L-bend, wrench with a ball end. Ball end is nice because you can go in at an angle and it still works. I think a T-handle wrench would do the job, too. When you get the wrench into the socket, you'll know.

Doh, yeah....I thought the allan bolt size was a five, so I'd stick it through that front slot, but it was too big to turn. So I tried a 4mm....viola! thanks guys.

I went looking to see what size wrench it took....but couldn't find it anywhere...not in my files...not on the web...not anywhere! I'm glad you got it working! You da man!

BTW...I really like these levers. They aren't real pretty, but they sure do the job with a set of V-brakes. I wonder why no one else is making them....
