shimano front derailleur replacment help needed
have a trek 7300 that has a bent shimano altus front derailleur needs to be replaced--I'm not good at this--finding the right part--not the install part--it is 48-38-28--8 speed. When I try to find a shimano to use, seems they don't work according to the specs. and \or don't produce the one I need anymore. can't you help me with the right model. would like to stick with shimano.
thanks ryker |
All Shimano MTB front derailleurs are compatible with the same shifters, what's the problem with the ones you find?

Guess I should have stated that I wanted to replace it with something of better quality--my opinion is that what's on there is really cheap. Seems when I was on Shimano site-- I could not get up a description of one that would work with a max 48t--if that's the right way to put it.

yes there is new alivio shifter SL-M430 with FD-M431 and should work with 48-36-26 T

would this one work even though mine is 8 spd
Shimano Deore M590 Front Derailleur - 9 speed Wide link pivot design for increased rigidity and response Convertible between top-pull or bottom-pull cable routing applications Uni-band version fits 34.9/31.8/28.6mm seat-tubes with included shims Low clamp (top swing) or high clamp (down swing) versions Max tooth: 48t Designed for 50.0mm chainline applications 170g |
The cage plates "might" be a bit closer together.
That could cause chain rub a gear "sooner" when when the chain is toward the ends of the cassette. Personally, I haven't had any trouble with Tourney>Acera FD's when properly adjusted. Just get the version for the 46/48T ring vs the 42/44T ring. I have some gawd awful ring combos on my 2 bikes. 22-32-36 & 22-32-38. One still has the FDER for a 48T ring. It doesn't have Dura Ace quality shifting, but it's totally "functional". |
