Fit v brakes without bosses?
I have bought a Bullitt bike for which I aquired a Rohloff speedhub without space to fit discs. The bike has no brake bosses for v brakes which i suppose is the next most powerful brake to discs. Is there any way I can fit v brakes to this bike?

My suggestion, if your frame and fork are made for disc brakes, is to get hubs made for same, and sell this one to finance that (partly). |
Somebody had bosses clamps a few years back...

A Google search on"clamp on v brake bosses" will yield many hits to peruse. Here is one to get you started. http://www.bentechbikes.com/vbrakes.htm
EDIT: This is a rear wheel application, even mediocre caliper brakes should be able to easily lock up the wheel. How much more power can you really use? |

A Bolt onto the center bolt hole on the brake bridge adaptor is made, to put V brakes on BMX frames
originally sold with a center bolt mounted caliper brake. once fitting that, installing the V Brakes can follow .. because they are direct pull , V brake can go on the back side of a front fork. any flexibility is backed up by the frame itself. brake adapter pressed into it by rotating wheel force. There are even forks like Thorn, sherpa [sjs] that are brazed up like that |
I agree about the rear brake. There's only so much force you can apply before you lock the wheel. Any extra force that the brakes could apply is then useless.
I would go with a caliper brake at the rear, combined with a disc/cantilever/v-brake at the front. If necessary you can always change the fork to one with the appropriate mountings. |
my friend helped me braze these on this old steel cruiser frame... the braze-on bosses cost just a few $$s.
