Lever cover installation bolt removed

At the bottom right of this manual it states to never remove the lever cover installation bolt. Well, mine had been removed on a used bike...accidentally by me. The large lever to pull the chain to a taller cog now does not snap back into place. Anyone know how to fix it? I have all the pieces.

Narhay- That cover bolt is removed often by those who need to flush out the old gummy lube and then re lube with fresh/slippery stuff when the ratchet pawls stop pivoting easily. My guesses are that the shift pod is in this old lube having gotten gummy state or that when reassembled a spring became detached, it's also possible to reassemble things so that the cover rubs. If the pod pivot assembly was fooled with you might have tightened up the "bearing adjustment" so to speak and not the levers are being clamped too tightly.
Have you taken the cover back off and seen what goes on without it? Generally the cover is only there for dirt shielding and the pod should be able to function without it. This way you can observe how it all works and maybe have that 'Ah Ha" moment. Andy.
