Possible silly hub question
 

OK ... I may be fantazining about this, but I may as well ask the experts: Can I lace a 32-spoke wheel (rear, in this case) to a hub drilled to accommodate 36 spokes? Will the four open holes throw the wheel out of true?

that would not work, the posititioning of the holes is not right. Stick with 32 spokes. In my opinion, in moist cases 36h is not necessary, not with the quality of todays metals.

It is theoretically possible to lace a 32-hole rim to a 36-hole hub, if one selects the open holes carefully (obviously, two across from each other on each flange, with the two open holes one flange 90 degrees from the two on the other). This should work, but I have to concur with phantomcow2 that it is FAR better to use a matched hub and rim. You can probably trade either your hub or your rim with someone else or on eBay.

ebay is your best bet if your stuck with mismatched parts. Its really up to you 36 or 32h. 36h is nice in that it is strong, and you can use 15gauge and have it ligher than 3214 gauge spokes. And probably close to same strength because of the larger # of spokes.
