Bob trailer...
 

Anyone have any idea how to attach a bob to a 2012 Novara Safari??
Any help would be appreciated =^l

It appears that you replace your rear skewer with a long skewer that has special nuts on either end that the trailer attaches to.

I use a Trek trailer and it too came with a longer skewer and a "hitch" that attaches to the skewer on the non drive side that in turn the "trailer hitch ball" goes into.

What's a bob trailer? Some sort of brand?

More information would be helpful...

If your Novara has the rear rack, you may have some clearance issues with the Bob mount from what I have read.

BoB (Beast of Burden) trailers are a single wheel trailer with an attachment to either end of the rear axle, a steering hinge between the wheel attachment "fork" and the cargo section and the wheel at the back end of the cargo section. The single wheel and steering articulation allows the trailer wheel to track in the same path as the bikes wheels do. This makes negotiating around trail obstacles without a trailer wheel hitting them far easier (then a two wheel trailer). BoB has a version with the trailer wheel suspended for trail shock management. Andy.

a longer bob skewer.Just by holding it up to the dropouts it looks like it will interfere with both the Derailleur and the rear rack.

You are correct.
It's beginning to look like I've gotta add a front rack, and got with panniers.

But I really liked pulling the Bob!

I found no problems with the BoB Skewer that the trailer tows by, interfering with my RD,
or racks and panniers.

But I'm not there to supervise and see what you are doing..
Summer Touring, we see lots of those Trailers being Towed,
Often without panniers on the bikes, maybe a HB Bag for convenience..
You should have enough space unless going off for
years at a time and carrying a week + of food.

I have toured quite a bit with the Bob, Handlebar bag, and with the tent on the rear rack. I've actually spent a couple of months at a time that way!
That is exactly what I wanted to do with the Safari, however, the new rear rack, and the castings over the dropouts on the bike are not going to allow that.
I'm bummed!

If you have the BoB, why do you need the rear rack?

Post a pix of the target location and a pix of the existing Bob mount. My guess is that you need to buy another "things" to match them together. Can help if pictures are provided.

Google might be helpful. Or can search for them on Amazon or ebay. Plenty of listings as "bob bike trailer" or similar

Adventure Cycling Association is the organization devoted to Bicycle Touring and their web site and forum will have a huge amount of info on this topic. The Bob vs panniers discussion/argument is a contentious there as Shimano vs Campy is here. You can be certain that several members there have dealt with, and probably solved, this problem.

SANTANA tandems got a special extra long BoB trailer skewer made, they will work.
tow fork is easy to spread to that 160 width then some spacers back to your own dropout Spacing.

being quite long there may be some extra leverage applied to the skewer, so
It would be prudent to order 2 to have a backup.

the people at REI, and also Bob Gear. Between the two of them I still don't have a solution!
REI is working on the problem with the Novara folks ,and claim they'll have an answer(?) for me by the first of next week.
We'll see...

Friends did use a 2 wheel trailer, Of steel , with high side rails ,
to bolt a car child seat down, to it's bottom..
Daughter must be at least 30 by now..
