Lubes, Grease, Oils, and anything else needed...

So I have been searching and reading and watching youtube for weeks now!

It seems as though FINISHLINE is the best product for:

a) Degreaser (T/F)

b) Lube (T/F)

c) Grease (T/F)

d) Seat post grease - Carbon frame and aluminum post (T/F)

Now the question is agree or disagree with the statements above and also, where exactly do I apply the grease at? (A video/pictures would be perfect):thumb:

What kind of lube? Chain lube is highly debated topic. Use whatever you like because everyone has their own opinion. I like dry lubes like Rock n Roll Gold and Boeshield T9, but some people don't.

Degreaser...I use Simple Green diluted to about 1:20.

Grease....again use whatever. I use Phil Wood because that's what the bike shop recommended when I asked them about greasing my pedals. Just make sure it is compatible with whatever you're putting it on. For example some greases don't play well with rubber or silicone gaskets. Seatpost grease...I have no experience with carbon anything but almost anything should suffice here.

i wouldn't call rock n roll gold dry lube more of a light body grease and solvent

If anything I am more concerned about the seat post grease/lube/thingy because I hear they can fuze together if not greased/lubed

In regards to the degreaser, I used simple green and noticed some damage as it took some coating off and now that part has spots on it

I just want to know where I should inject grease in?

I was considering this...

How is diesel fuel for degreasing the chain? I've heard it works very well so I picked up a half gallon a few days ago. I haven't needed to degrease yet as I just did a few days ago with wd40.

I recently bought some white lightning lube and dry lube, but haven't tried it yet to comment on its quality.

If you had just Googled d) you would have your answer.

Look up (Park Tool, Sheldonbrown, Google) each procedure to find out where/how you apply lube (and leave off the at). Frankly if you've been studying for weeks and don't know where to apply grease a few more words in print are not going to help. Get some in-person assistance, such as at a bike co-op.

There is NO one "best" product for anything, bikes or otherwise. I'll say that even though I like Finish Line very much. You can find reviews online of any product, so just Google them with the word review and decide for yourself.

I guess 'true' must be a relative statement cause I don't know of any shop that exclusively uses only FinishLine products even though they're available in gallon dispensors.

Several companies make a FibreGrip equivalent. Its NOT grease but is highly recommended for CF component assembly.

Shimano uses a silicone based grease to assemble everything. Its safe for all plastics, rubber and composites and is suitable for everything from wheel bearings to cable housing. Most greases on the market are petroleum based and can affect some plastics and rubbers.

WD40 is an excellent general degreaser as it also protects against corrosion. Varsol, kerosene and similar items can be a fire hazard as well as an environmental hazard - hence the general move to water based cleaners.

In the long run, that you actually do regular maintenaince is much more important than what you actually choose to use.

It's smelly, messy and tend to leave an oily residue behind. OMS (odorless mineral spirits) is cleaner and less smelly but a lot more expensive. K-1 kerosine is a good compromise.
