Summit Chain Tensioner Alignment issue

I installed the Summit Chain Tensioner (link below) and I cannot get the spring to work as the screw is not long enough. So I locked down the movement, but now the pulley is not aligned. it runs diagonal to the cog. Has anyone had this issue? The deraillure hanger is straight, so I am unsure as to why it is not aligned.
