left crank gone bad

I have a 2011 giant sedona ST, I have put almost 1000 miles on it since I got it used 6 months ago.
I do not know what size the bottom bracket is, I tried to remove the drive side crank but the threads stripped out, I di pull of the left side which is the bad crank arm, it is a SR Suntour this is what the markings are on the back side " the number 10 inside a circle then numbers 870 1E 175 "

SO I know I need a 175 mm long crank arm but what size spindle would I need to order it for? as I was seeing some for 122, 110 etc...

thanks

This one would do.

Most modern cranks are low profile, which means they are wider at the pedal than at the bottom bracket. Make sure the square in the above crank is the same as the existing (not rotated 45 degrees) and you're probably fine.

Hi,

What is bad about the left side ?

the pedal threads got cross threaded when I had the neighbor boy install pedal extenders, he got the drive side on straight but that left side he did not and after he removed it and re-inserted it it is slanted. , And Bueller Thanks for the link, I will make sure that tapper is square and not a diamond thanks again

would this fit " http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-M131-C...d_sim_sbs_sg_6

Most likely. Two issues, though:
You may not like the shorter crank. Less leverage on the pedal stroke. I wouldn't buy 170s, but I'm tall.
You're still stuck with that stripped right crank, and would need to find a puller which would get it off.

I was just thinking maybe it's time for a new bottom bracket and crankset, I guess I would have to cut the right crank off. As far as the 5mm length difference I dont think I will notice too much as I have a longer torsso than legs being 6'1 myself I have long body shorter legs. So maybe the 170mm might be great fit haha I think I will try them they have a full refund policy so if I dont like they go back.

Thanks again

Hi,

The issue is probably torque and that most whatever footers
produce more with their best leg, so that side if anything
should have the shorter crank, for offset crank lengths.

Being a lefty, always starting on the left, I'd have no problem
at all with a left 170mm and a right 175mm, it is only 3%.

rgds, sreten.

One radical bike designer thinks for most people the generic
racing 170mm is too high by at least 20mm for most people.
But it isn't going to change, like the QWERTY keyboard.

no help to the OP here, but my first reaction after reading the title was whether the problem was drugs, alcohol, gambling or loose women.

So... you got no bikeshops in AZ? Sounds like maybe you need one.

I went to a couple of lbs and they were too busy , unless you had your wallet wide open. One wanted to sell me a crankset that I am getting on amazon for 4 times what amazon sold it for. plus his install was 60 bucks per hour min. 1 hour. I passed, needless to say. the other shop wanted the same amount of money for that exact crankset also so I was shocked when I saw the amazon price , and I know they have to get that for a lot less than that.

Plus I like to do things myself with a little tip every now and then, cause when I was a kid, I rebuilt all my bikes but then again that was over 40 yrs ago
