cable housing joint???

Hi guys,
Im looking for a "ferrule" type part that would allow me to change the "male" end of some cable housing to a female end. Does anyone know what this might be called? It would essentially be a metal tube that would allow you to connect 2 pieces of housing together to make a longer piece of housing. Cant seem to find anything on ebay that would work. Thanks for your help

I've made some on occasion. Galvanized ferrules takes to solder like a dream. Align on a toothpick or something.

Still functional, but not as nice is if you take two ferrules and sleeve them in a couple of layers of shrink tube, preferably the glue lined type.

Wouldn't it be easier and cleaner looking, as well as possibly more functional, to just get the right length of housing?

Yea there are double ended Ferrules,
back when Shimano first started selling Aero style Brake levers they came with a pair,
included to be the end of the under taped portion of the housing.

QBP has them in their catalog as a small part.

You can just use the end of a V-brake noodle, if you trim the plastic off one of the ends.

OP: Just cut a short piece of V-brake noodle (our thin wall tube available many places)...say 3/4" long and insert both ends of the house in half way. Probably best to put a 1 1/2" piece of 1/4" heat shrink tube over it all touch it off with your butane lighter.

You didn't give up any clues as to what you were trying to achieve. Can you illuminate?

No, a double-ended ferrule is great for after cyclocross season when you want to take the interruptor levers off for riding road.

I still have the brake housings on one bike from before I switched sides, so both of them are front length. The V-brake ferrule is neat enough, and re-taping the bars is easier (I always do it with the bars off the bike).

My question would be this as well - if you buy the ferrules, you'll probably pay more for them and shipping than you would for the right length of housing if you went to a bike shop and had them cut the right length off the big sod-off roll of cable housing that most shops have. Unless it's for the interruptor lever thing, I'd not bother.

If you have the bike shop add them in, with their next order from their distributor, you dont pay shipping .

as its a combined object with all their other items ordered..
