Suntour Command woes :(
I setup my trek 560 build with Suntour command shifters. I removed a bearing from rear shifter so it would run in true friction per instructions I've seen on this forum. After completing my build, I took my bike to the LBS for tuning (i'm no good at this) and they claimed everything was working wonderfully when I picked it up yesterday. After getting the bike home, I found that I can't shift beyond the first two gears on the rear cassette. To make matters worse, the front won't shift at all. After some adjustment, I got it shifting between my two chain rings and over the entire rear cassette.
My problem is that shifting is extremely rough. There is a lot of chain rattle, and when shifting through the rear gears it often skips one or two and typically doesn't seat the chain well. Shifting through the rear gears can also put my front derailleur out of alignment. The shifters are also tight, like they don't have enough slack cable to make the full movement. I called up my LBS and mentioned what was occurring and they blamed my setup - which is odd because they claimed to have it all working perfectly at the shop.
Below is my setup:
Suntour Cyclone rear and front derailleurs (near NOS condition)
Suntour Command shifters (converted to 100% friction)
Malliard Helicomatic hub (rebuilt) with a NOS freewheel
NOS Sedisport chain
Because everything is like-new, I have a hard time believing my issues are component wear. So my questions are... Is my setup really junk or should I find a new LBS to help me? Has anyone gotten the Suntour Command shifters to work on an entirely friction setup?

those are so long dead C&V folks are your only help, most want to toss that stuff in a bin, and get New Stuff...
there's your problem!
Your Mix and match failed, i suggest friction shifting.. ..
lean how to shift without the klick shifting, any of it.
