Extras from Chainstay Protector?

I just bought a clear plastic stick-on chainstay protector and noticed that on the backing paper were also 6 3/4" dots and two small rectangles of the same material. Are these meant for a specific purpose or can I just use them in strategic spots on the frame to ward off cable wear?
