9 spd cassette
 

Hi all,
I'm in the market for some new wheels. I have 9 spd sora/tiagra set up. The wheels I'm looking at have 10/11 spd Aluminium hubs. I know the 10 speed only hubs wouldn't work, would a 9 speed cassette fit on a 10/11 speed hub body. I assume the 11 speed cassettes are wider than the tens. But are they big enough the fit a 9 speed cassette?

In the shimano realm, bodies(the part that the cassette sits on) are the same size from 8-speed and up. Spacing has gone tighter, and sprocket has gone thinner to make room for more speeds. Fit is tuned by adding thin spacers when mounting the cassette.

Keep in mind though that Dura-Ace sometimes has a very limited cross-compatibility.

The 10 speed wheels will work fine, the freehub is the same dimension as the 9 speed and 8 speed freehubs were.

Except, of course, the hubs with aluminum splines. Then only the older Dura-ace 10-speed cassettes will fit, since the splines are deeper than the 8/9/10/11 speed hubs with steel or titanium hub bodies. The problem with aluminum hub bodies is that the aluminum deforms under load- Dura-ace 10-speed made the splines deeper so the hub deformed less, which pretty much obsoleted themselves. They switched to titanium shortly therafter.
