What did they do with this wheel??

I would that the Sram hub would have 36 holes. Every third hole is skipped on the hub yet evenly spaced on the rim.

Is it a 36H hub laced to a 24H rim?

How many spokes are there? Based on your numbers, yes, it would have to be 24 spoke rim and 36 spoke hub.

The senior mechanic at my LBS does that regularly. He can do some crazy stuff with a wheel!!

I can't see enough in the picture to count spokes. I see Sram IG hubs most often with 32 or 36 holes. Using only 2/3 of the holes leaves the 32H hub out (I figure that they used whole spokes!!).

Thanks, I had never thought of that and it gives me several cool ideas.

I don't care about the strength or other stuff, I'm no beast and 24 spokes will serve me fine. I have a 20/24 bike anyway so low spoke count has already worked for me.

That's my wheel on a belt drive Moulton TSR-2 .. SRAM A-2 Automatix laced to a Velocity rim .. I've done 36/24 on a number of 36h internal geared hubs .. the two I ride the most are the Moulton (daily) and my 700c Titanium road bike with a vintage 2 speed Sachs Automatic .. so far through the past few years, no broken spokes or any other wheel issues.

All kinds of possibilities exist for front wheels with radial spokes... I did a 24h rim on a 36h hub years ago.

Not long ago I built a rear with a 24h rim on a 32h hub, but using half the NDS holes and all the DS holes on the hub; it was a Campy G3 (triplet) rim with 2 DS spokes for every NDS one. Had a 27h rim I was going to lace to a sweet old 36h 600 hub, but the rim had a flat spot :(

I was pretty sure this is a 24h on a 36h just from looking at the pic, but to prove it, here:

If you can identify opposite holes on the hub and/or get a handle on the lacing pattern, it's easily deduced.

Really, you had a 27h rim? You counting the valve hole?;)
