Missing Link or Power Link with Shimano Chains?

Hi All,

A buddy just picked up a 90 or 91 World Sport. It has a 7 speed Shimano HG chain, is either or both the Sram or KMC quick links compatible with that chain?

Thanks Shepp30

No first hand experience, but people do it all the time with no issues. Just make sure it's the right width for the chain.

BTW- the reason I lack 1st hand experience is that I'm a cheapskate and can't see buying a chain plus a power link separately. I simply buy chains that come with a connector, for the same price (just about) as the chain alone.

Thanks FB!

We're cheap too...that bike probably doesn't have 500 miles on it, no need to replace the chain but cleaning it on the bike sux. Figured we could add a power link for a couple of bucks and buy a quick link chain when that one needs replaced.

KMC Missing Link fits Shimano HG for 7-8sp, referred to by KMC as 7.3mm.

The narrower Missing Link II is for narrower SRAM 8sp chain and for Shimano IG model chain, referred to by KMC as 7.1mm.

SRAM's PowerLink for 8sp does not fit Shimano 7-8sp HG chain, it is too narrow.
