hubs and holes
hi... the other day i was riding on my bike and my rim become crap... then im thinking to buy a new rim... but my budget is limited so i have a 36 hole hub and i found a great rim on nashbar (a mavic f519 i guess)... and it has 36 hole... so the problem is that im planning in a future time to change mi drive train... currently i have 21 speeds and if want to upgrade i know i will need a new hub for 8 or 9 speed cassettes... but i cant find a place that sells a 36 hole hub anymore... what to do in this case? the deore hubs are made for 32 or even 28 but not for 36....

Shimano hub, right?
If that's the case, you're cool. Go ahead and lace up the 36 hole Nashbar rim onto your existing hub. When the time comes to upgrade your bike to 9-speed, just buy an 8/9 speed freehub body and a 135mm axle set (if necessary) and convert your current hub to take the wider cassette. It's easy to do. You'll have to redish the rim, of course, but that's not a big deal at all. |
as for 36h stuff, check alfred e bike
