Whistling Noise

Hi,

Newbie here. Just bought a new/used bike. 2013 Trek Wahoo. Bought it from a guy who purchased it in April and maybe had 2 rides on it. Anyway...been riding it and noticed that it has a "whistle" when I pedal. Coasting it will whistle occasionally but today I placed my left foot in the 6 oclock position and coasted = no whistle. Right foot in 6 oclock position while coasting and= whistle? any ideas? It is getting annoying and it's loud enough for people anywhere near me to hear also. Thanks

Rick

If the whistle really is consistent for that pedal position and also occurs when pedaling I can't see what it could be mechanically. Nothing is turning in the crank/bb when coasting and there's nothing in the rear that would always be in the same position for a given crank position, and when pedaling the cassette and hub are moving in tandem, so there's no rubbing between them.

This is a bit of a wild stab, but I'm thinking there's something on your bike making wind noise, and your shift in leg position changes the flow of air enough to stop it in some positions.

So that things don't get confused with the mention below of a cruiser with a similar symptom, the Wahoo is a disc brake 29'er. In spite of the crank position, coasting issue the problem could possibly be disc brake related.

Wow! Someone else with the same "issue" as the one I have with my cruiser! You and I must be the only ones that have whistling bikes. haha
If my left leg is down at bottom of stroke I get a whistle coming from between leg and rear fender. Not bothersome, just unique!

I tell others it comes from a happy bicycle Always clean and always ridden!
