Campy 10S Cable Install - Ferrules or washers?

I got the Campy replacement Cable Kit, which indeed comes with both ferrules and washers. How do I know which to use for the gear cables? Ferrules? Washers? Both?

Thanks!

2009+ levers use a tiny washer at the bottom of the hole where the shift cable is inserted. You couldn't use a ferrule, even if you wanted to, since the hole is too small. Older shifters will accept a ferrule.

So if the ferrule doesn't fit, use the washer. If the ferrule fits, use that instead. I have a mix of older and newer levers (thank you ebay!) so i'll just see what works in each situation, but certainly it's one or the other but not neither or both!
Thank you
