overhauling the front hub
hi, i just started working at the neighborhood bike works, an orginazation to help kids earn bikes. i'm getting trained in the basics of mechanics, an i ran into a problem. i was overhauling my front hub, an as i fasten the wheel back onit sort of stops spinning. i have quick release, and when it isn't tightened it spins perfectly. i had it with absolutly no play an still spinning then it locked up. my boss suggested letting it have a little play, so i re adjusted an the same problem. so what i have right now is a very loose quick release so i can still ride it. any suggestions?

Your "boss" was (hopefully) referring to the cones when he suggested to add "play" not the QR.
Also check that the bearing cage (if you have one) is not installed backwards. Remember the fingers of the cage go into the cup. Enjoy |

he was talking about the cones. the qr is just loose enough to help, it isn't dangerously loose. an everything is back togethr right. i may just replace the qr with an axle and see if that helps?
