Sean, I've got to admit, I'm intrigued by the system you describe. I'm not interested in it for my own personal use, but I think it'd be fun to try it out.
Of course, folks on a forum like this one are not too likely to appreciate that kind of system, but some of us do like to see these things develop, just to see how they work and if/how pitfalls and obstacles are overcome. I've been fascinated by the Nuvinci since I first heard of it, and when considering auto shifting, the continuously-variable nature of the N360 makes more sense, to me, than stepped gearing would.
Folks on here have mentioned that manually shifting a bike is "good enough", and I agree-- for my own personal use. Others have mentioned that if you can pedal, steer, brake, etc then you can also likely shift. This may be true for most ppl, but some ppl may prefer the mindlessness of autoshifting. (I prefer the atavism of singlespeed, myself.) Regardless, as a SO Cycling coach who knows a few guys who could definitely benefit from some sort of autoshifting system, especially a sophisticated one. If only I had the money for a set-up like that, some of the folks on the team could certainly benefit....
