Klein stem adapter ?
Have a Klein Attitude 1996 wish to replace stem / handlebar unit Change to a more conventional set up .is there such an adapter made or do I need machine shop fabrication
Cheers |
are you trying to go from a threaded stem to the current threadless setup? There are any number of adapters available. They are not brand specific.
|
From a Google search it appears the '96 Attitude has a threadless fork, headset and stem and, I assume 1-1/8" diameter steerer. By a "more conventional set up" do you mean you want to change it to a threaded fork and quill stem? If so, there is no simple adapter that will accomplish it. You will need a new fork, a new headset and a new stem. None of this will be cheap.

I bet it actually had the Airhead oversize headset

If you have the 1-1/16" proprietary Klein steer tube size and a stem-bar integrated thing, you'll just need to have a shim to go from the steer tube size to a 1-1/8" stem clamp size and then you can get whatever stem you want.

Yes it does. The airhead intregrated stem / handlebar
|
I'm going to measure / examine when I get home . The thing is big , like 1-3/4" maybe . It's got a special wrench
|
Ok guess I didn't find a airhead guru .steerer tube is 1-5/16" or 3.4 mm O.D , it has a tapered collar between steer tube & inside stem /handlebar unit . You tighten down a collar on the inner tapered fitting ( special Klein wrench ) this is a compression fitting . Odd thing is fork didn't come off frame after I removed all these fittings even lightly tapped down on it .dont understand how it stays on ( unless its pressed in )???
