Stem Sizing Question

I have a threaded headset/fork. I would like to purchase a threadless stem adapter similar to the one shown here: http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...eid=&pagename=

However, when I got out my calipers to find out if my quilled stem is 1" or 1 1/8", it measured approx. 7/8". I measured the stem right at the point where it enters the headset. BTW, I'm sure my calipers are fine. My bike is a stock 1991 Trek 2300. Where on the stem should I measure it to get an accurate reading?

The quill for a 1" threaded HS measures 22.2mm and for a 11/8" it measures 25.4mm. Nuttin wrong with your calipers. You have a 1" HS. Get the 1" adapter.

Thanks! Right after I read your reply, I went back to the Nashbar page again and noticed that that's exactly what it said in bolded type.
