SRAM PG-1050 12-36, Shimano Deore SGS RD-M592 RD (9-Speed, Long Cage)& STI?

My bike, Bianchi Volpe comes with Tiagra 10 speed 12-30 cog set. I'd like to use Sram 12-36 cog set. Will the topic combination work? I'm a little concern with using SRAM cog set and Deore rear deraileur and STI shifter.

As long as the Deore derailer isn't a Dynasys, it will work fine. Personally, I find the SRAM cassettes to work a bit better than Shimano cassettes.

There should be no issue with using an SRAM cassette. I have a Deore LX RD, SRAM 11 - 32, SRAM PC950 chain, and 9-speed Tiagra shifters and it works just fine.

Moving from 30 to 36 is a pretty big jump, though. You'll likely need to add links to your chain to make it long enough.

Thanks for all reassuring replies.

Another way to achieve lower gearing is to install a 26t inner chainring in your existing crankset, see: http://www.amazon.com/Sugino-26t-74m.../dp/B001GSKTNS . The smaller chainring will produce a 15% deeper range with your existing 12-30 cassette. The 12-36 cassette will improve your gearing range by 20%, but you will have much larger gaps between the cogs.

You will be able to use a your existing Tiagra derailleurs and shifters with a 26t chainring, just be sure to check the chain length. If your chain is correctly sized to the existing combination, the chain length will be safe to use with the 26t chain length.

Be sure to add a Dog Fang chain retainer to assist the shifts to the smaller inside chainring: http://www.amazon.com/Deda-Fang-Bicy.../dp/B001SIEXQK
