Tires Options for 26x1-3/8

Anyone know if I can go up a tire size on a 26x1-3/8 wheel? I thought about trying 26x1-1/2 for a bit of extra meat. I already referenced Sheldon's page and I know I can't use decimal sizes.

26x1-3/8 (650A) is an obscure wheel size for a modern bike, guessing this is either something as described here http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/tires/590.html If so, your choice is limited, if you have a regular MTB 26" wheel, the options are pretty unlimited, some more info would be useful.

Yup not a modern bike, more like old school cruiser. I already ordered the wheels so if I have to stay with the original tire size I will.

No. 26x 1 1/2 is an entirely different rim size, not interchangeable with 26 x 1 3/8. (584mm vs 590mm.)
