What rear tire do I buy?

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me please?

I am looking at rear wheels for my hybrid bike,

I got this off the rear wheel between the spokes:

Shimano fh- m475 viam

I googled hybrid shimano rear wheel replacement m475 and am looking at something like this, do you think this is the correct wheel?

M Part Shimano M475 Hub on Mavic A317 Rim Complete Hybrid Wheel Rear - 32 Hole Black

How do I tell what wheel I need exactly?

My bike has 8 gears at the rear and its a hybrid.

Thanks for your help,
Nick

Believe it or not, nothing there helps.

I did a search on the Mavic site and came up all around but not directly on an A317 rim. I assume that your bike is older, having 8 speeds on rear, and your rim is no longer available.

Look a bit further around the rim........there should be a sticker with a number like XX-XXX (18-622 or 25-559).

That will be the diameter and width of the rim and the start of finding out what size tire you might use.

"Shimano fh- m475"
That's just the hub.

I've built 4 rear wheels using the SAME hub for each. A 27", a 26" and 2 700c's.

Look on the RIM near the valve hole. There should be a size designator for the RIM.
Something like gregjones stated. "....there should be a sticker with a number like XX-XXX (18-622 or 25-559)."
