Touch up paint 1986 Schwinn Prelude Gunmetal Gray

Was hoping someone here has or has had the same bike as mine. I have a couple small spots on my frame I want to touch up. If so, what model and year car best matched our bike? This will save me some time ridding around parking lots trying to find a match.

Don't expect that any brush on paint will eve really match spray on paint. Andy

The spots I need to hit are hidden from view. I just want to keep the rust away.

Go buy some Testor's model paint. Buy the non water based if you can. Get as close a color as you can. If it is a bit darker also buy some white. If it is a bit lighter then get black. Mix the colors on an old piece of plastic until you get the closest you can. Mix it in very small amounts. Paint the spots and you are done. You will still see where the spots are and do not expect more than close color and rust protection. Roger

I was thinking of trying the touch up paint pens from a car dealer. They say they are formulated with a clear coat in them. Any thoughts on that?

Yes, they work well but there are a couple of caveats:
* IF you can find a relatively LATE MODEL and POPULAR brand of car that comes in a color close enough to your bike's color (forget trying to find anything older than a few years in one of today's auto stores)
* IF the auto store/s in your area carry and have in stock the color you are trying to find (they are often merchanised by an outside vendor on an irregular basis)
* IF you;re not trying to perfectly blend a metallic color in an obvious place (never gonna happen with a paint pen).

Thanks for the help. Yes I know it will never be perfect. I removed the kick stand and the bottom of the bike lost some paint. Just need it to be close.
