Chain popped off

While cleaning my chain with the Grunge brush. I ran the chain backwards turning the pedals backwards. The chain popped off. I think I may have used too much tension with the brush. I adjusted the gears and pedaled the bike forward by hand and the chain went back on. Is there any possible damage done? Or, is this common when turning the pedal backwards? I have oiled the chain by turning the pedal backwards without it popping off.

When turning the pedals backwards, it is best to have the chain in about the middle of the cassette to get a straight chainline. Otherwise the bend in the chain will tend to make it jump cogs.

ALways happens to me. I have feet problems and need to back pedal so my right pedal is ready for the power stroke, otherwise I fall down.
