how bad is a dent frame?
Hi guys,
I'm wondering if it's okay or not buying the bike with this dent (see photo) I'm new in this forums and I don't know much about bikes, just looking for a bike to use to go to school. Thanks guys and sorry for my bad English. |
What photo? (I don't see one.)
And there's no need to apologize for your English! There are plenty of native English speakers whose posts are harder to read than yours! :-) |
Your English is fine, unfortunately your photo isn't showing up.

The dent itself is not that bad BUT........... is the top tube bent? Put a straight edge along the opposite side of the tube, if it's straight I wouldn't be afraid of it. If the tube is bent I'd pass on it and keep looking. It looks like something just fell against it though so I'm going to guess the tube is straight. Hope they're knocking he price down some for the dent though.

I'd ride the bike and keep an eye on the TT dent. Not much you'll do about it any way. The cost to lay some filler (weld bead) on top of the dent (or replace the TT completely) and then re heat treat the frame is not worth it. Most any other "repair" is cosmetic only (like filling with bondo). Andy.

Your handlebar just swung around and banged into the top tube? , wrap a length of padded bar tape
around the top tube, there, as a bumper, to not visibly , repeat the maneuver. |

He's offering $350, it's a "2010 Redline Conquest Sport 6061" and this is another pic he sent to me. Would you call it bent? Thanks for the reply :) http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=351798 |

As Fietsbob said it looks like a classic top tube dent from a handlebar swinging around. This is common after minor crashes, and years ago it was common practice to wrap a pad and/or tape over this spot to prevent dents of this kind, or later to cover them and claim it was prevention.
Not commenting on the value of the bike, but the dent isn't anything to worry about, except that it should be reflected in a lower price. |
